OUR PILLARS

Responsible, Resilient, and Respectful.

Brief I AM MSK History

Charlotte Miller-Lacy founded IAMMSK after recognizing a lack of adequate services for young girls in the city. Her vision for I Am My Sister’s Keeper is to empower women and girls through a strong, supportive community. The organization's motto reflects this mission: Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back.

Launched October of 2015, I Am My Sister’s Keeper (IAMMSK), is an organization founded in Wilmington, Delaware. Currently, four chapters strong (Wilmington, Dover, Sussex/Kent and Chester, PA) and expanding, this organization is working with promising girls between the ages of 6-25; introducing girls to people, places and things within Delaware and beyond to help them build character, self-esteem, love for community and sisterhood.  We currently have four programs within IAMMSK.

OUR VISION

Is to empower, inspire, and uplift young girls through engaging activities, structured programs, valuable lessons, meaningful challenges, and joyful celebrations. We provide guidance and support to help them grow into confident, resilient, and successful individuals. Our programs cater to girls ages 6 to 25, fostering sisterhood, leadership, and personal development at every stage of their journey.

OUR MISSION

IAM MY SISTER'S KEEPER is a Rites of Passage program that guides girls and young women to empower themselves. A collective of diverse women with a mission to guide the next generation of young girls, teens and women with a variety of holistic programming to reach their highest potentail as Responsible, Resilient, and Respectful women.

OUR PROGRAMS

Young ladies participating in IAMMSK must complete three Rites of Passage, a tri-fold vision board, 30 hours of community service, and attend two Saturday meetings over a nine-month period. During bi-monthly meetings, participants engage with women from diverse careers, educational backgrounds, and professional fields.

Field trips are designed to enhance their knowledge and learning experiences. Women mentors volunteer their time to build positive relationships with IAMMSK participants, fostering respect for others and a deeper understanding of community. The program’s curriculum is evidence-based, supporting the positive development of youth.

RECOGNITION!

IAMMSK has been recognized by the Governor Carney of the State of Delaware, New Castle County Government, the Delaware House of Representatives and Wilmington City Council with resolutions honoring the organization and our Founder for the renowned work we do in the community, particularly on the behalf of women and girls.

ADDITIONS

With the addition of the MSK Community Center in Wilmington, IAMMSK hopes to extend additional services and programming to Wilmington and its surrounding communities. Future plans for the MSKCC include fitness classes, cooking classes, art lessons, basketball leagues, meeting rooms, banquet facilities and practical skills lessons  financial literacy, parenting classes and digital literacy.
